WANDERING ALBATROSS 25 April heading south from a seawatch at Point Lookout, North Stradbroke Is,. QLD. "It was one of those moments when you know its all worth while - especially as I had dragged the guys out of bed an hour too early so that when we arrived at Dunwich at 6.25 there was no connecting bus to Point Lookout until 7.25......The most exciting thing after an hour or two had been the three 2-3 meter Leopard Sharks lazily swimming past the rocks - conditions were very calm and most birds were distant and few in number. One does start thinking it might be a waste of effort - when suddenly an albatross puts in an appearance and everything is right with the world again!" Thanks, Colin Reid.

FLAME ROBIN Braemer SF, QLD @ 17/4/2010 2.55 p.m. Rod Hobson reports "female robin. about 5-6 mtrs, in shade. Low in Belah about 1.5 mtrs from ground. very faint white spot base of bill/forehead. all over grey. belly, breast darker grey/brownish. wing bar bold, white, conspicuous. pale whitish vent. throat lighter, paler than chest. White outer tail coverts. legs, beak appear dark, black. pale eye ring. No sign of pinkish, reddish flush anywhere. left 3.05pm. bird still there UTM 94 - E 282138, N 6990095" This is a highly unusual sighting for the region, with Flame Robins being rare even in the farthest south parts of the state (thanks, Rod Hobson)

Poss Starling sp. Adelaide River Inn, NT @ 17/4/2010 Two black starlings similar to Metallic seen fussing around a small hollow, low down in the trunk of a palm tree in the middle of the beer garden by the little shelter with the picnic table beneath it. There are several possibilities for these birds including Asian Glossy Starling, Singing Starling, or even the Indonesian ssp. of Metallic Starling. Any birders heading through the region should check this out, try to get photos, and please report any further sightings (thanks, Chris Watson)

GREY FALCON, FRECKLED DUCK Alice Springs Sewage Treatment Plant, NT @ 19/4/2010 A single but well-viewed flyby from a Grey Falcon at the gate of the STP, and the sighting of a single Freckled Duck on the ponds, plus 4 Black-tailed Godwits (thanks, Chris Watson)

GREY FALCON Fivebough Swamp, Leeton, NSW @ 18/4/2010 around 12pm a single 1st year Grey Falcon changing from immature to adult plumage seen flying over Fivebough Swamp. One of only a few good records for NSW (thanks, Troy Mutton)

WHITE-FACED STORM PETREL Southport Pelagic, QLD @ 17/4/2010 Late in the pelagic a single bird sighted moving up the slick. Only the second record for Southport of this species, with the previous record being in April 2009. Masked Booby and Kermadec Petrel also good birds seen on the trip (thanks, Paul Walbridge)

RED-RUMPED SWALLOW Leanyer STP, Darwin @ 5pm (Darwin time) 18/4/2010 - I just got off the phone from Pete Kyne and he is watching a Red-rumped Swallow circle 2m over his car right now at Leanyer STP, north of Darwin. Entry to Leanyer requires a key and a permit to enter, which can be obtained from the NT Power and Water Corporation, or getting in touch with a local already in possession of a permit (thanks, Pete Kyne and Micha Jackson) - images to come!

DIAMOND DOVE Cecil Plains, QLD @ 3pm 13/4/2010 3 Diamond Doves flushed off the Dalby-Cecil Plains Rd, 6km north of Cecil Plains with a big waterbody on the east side of the road. (thanks, Andrew Stafford and Chris Sanderson)
